Taken at face value it was an innocent enough remark, encouraging friends to explore ‘a belief system to apply to day-to-day life to attain peacefulness’. But when Peaches Geldof chose to share her ‘religious’ convictions with her 148,000 followers on Twitter, it lifted the lid on a much more sinister world than first impressions would suggest. The socialite, 24, is a devotee of Ordo Templi Orientis, known as OTO, and even has the initials tattooed on her left forearm.
But a closer look at OTO — and Aleister Crowley, its founding ‘prophet’ — gives the lie to that assumption. Crowley, who was born into an upper-class British family in 1875, styled himself as ‘the Great Beast 666‘. He was an unabashed occultist who, prior to his death in 1947, revelled in his infamy as ‘the wickedest man in the world. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co
Damning evidence that Pope Francis may have betrayed two priests who were kidnapped and tortured by Argentina’s brutal military junta can be revealed today. The Mail on Sunday has seen documents which appear to show the new Pope secretly collaborated with the country’s dictatorship when he was head of the Jesuits there – using his real name Jorge Bergoglio – during the Dirty War that started in the Seventies. One of the documents is a 27-page report by Orlando Yorio, one of the kidnapped priests, in which he accuses the current pontiff of secretly spreading dangerous rumours about him and a colleague while personally promising them support and protection. A second document is a confidential government memo written in 1979 which appears to reveal Bergoglio informed junta officials that Father Yorio and Father Francisco Jalics were suspected of collaborating with guerrillas and that Jalics was accused of encouraging dissent among a congregation of nuns. Bergoglio, 76, who was chosen as the new Pope on Wednesday, has been accused of effectively handing the priests over to the regime’s death squads by failing to quash rumours they were dissidents. CNN – I’m going to start with three data points.
One: Some of the Chinese military hackers who were implicated in a broad set of attacks against the U.S. government and corporations were identified because they accessed Facebook from the same network infrastructure they used to carry out their attacks.
“Say that again and I’ll wash your mouth out with soap!” Did you ever get this threat from your parents as a kid if you used foul language? The irony is, you’re likely already washing your mouth out with soap on a twice daily basis.
How is that possible? A compound called SLS, or sodium lauryl sulfate, lurks in not just your toothpaste, but almost all products coming into contact with your skin, scalp, and eyes: that includes eye makeup, hair sprays, lipsticks, sunscreen, toothpaste, laundry detergent, conditioner, perfumes, and shampoo. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is everywhere, and it’s not doing good things for our health.Read more: naturalsociety

Training for ‘all-out war’ with the West: North Korea uses live artillery in drills near border as Kim Jong Un continues threats
Posted by Endtime Headlines – North Korea has carried out a drill using live artillery near its disputed border with the South, according to official media. The exercise was personally supervised by leader Kim Jong Un, who has issued a series of inflammatory threats against South Korea and the U.S. in recent days. The drill is the latest sign of worryingly high tensions between the neighbours after North Korea cancelled the ceasefire signed at the end of the Korean War. The border where the exercise took place is seen as the most likely site of any clash between the North and the South. North Korea has threatened a nuclear war with the U.S. after being enraged by new UN sanctions and military drills being held bySouth Korean and American troops.
IMUS, Philippines (AP) — Asia’s most prominent Roman Catholic leader knows how to reach the masses: He sings on stage, preaches on TV, brings churchgoers to laughter and tears with his homilies. And he’s on Facebook.
But Philippine Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle’s best response against the tide of secularism, clergy sex abuse scandals and rival-faith competition could be his reputation for humility. His compassion for the poor and unassuming ways have impressed followers in his homeland, Asia’s largest Catholic nation, and church leaders in the Vatican.
Tagle’s rising star has opened a previously unimaginable possibility: An Asian pope. Read more… AP
Rare ‘gigantic jet’ lightning spotted over China in northernmost sighting yet of the mysterious storm event that reaches space
Rare ‘gigantic jet’ lightning has been glimpsed in the skies over China, sparking fresh speculation about what causes these mysterious storm phenomena.
The tree-shaped electrical discharges, which occur above storm clouds and flash up to the edge of space, have previously only been seen over tropical and subtropical regions.
But a new study outlines a burst spotted over mainland China at 35 degrees latitude, about the same as Cyprus and the furthest north the phenomena have ever been spotted.
Scientists say their observations could shed light on the global electrical circuit and help pilots understand the risks of flying over storm clouds, but they admit they still don’t know what causes the gigantic jets. Read more: dailymail.co.uk
UK government plans to track ALL web use: MI5 to install ‘black box’ spy devices to monitor British internet traffic
UK spy agencies want to install ‘black box’ surveillance devices across the country’s communications networks to monitor internet use, it emerged today. A report by an influential committee of MPs tells how spooks are keen to implement a nationwide surveillance regime aimed at logging nearly everything Britons do and say online.
The spy network will rely on a technology known as Deep Packet Inspection to log data from communications ranging from online services like Facebook and Twitter, Skype calls with family members and visits to pornographic websites.
But civil liberties and privacy campaigners have reacted with outrage, saying that the technology will give the government a greater surveillance capability than has ever been seen.Full story Daily Mail
We’re less than two months into 2013, and one thing is clear: hacking is a day to day part of our reality now. Sometimes the attacks are small and simple.
On Monday, Burger King’s Twitter account was hacked, and began tweeting pro-McDonald’s messages and alluding to rap songs. Hacking collective Anonymous has taken responsibility for the hack.
And today, auto company Jeep has had its own Twitter account hacked in what appears to be a copycat attack.
Apple’s announcement came on the back of similar announcements from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Washington Post, who all recently acknowledged they had been hacked by groups from China. More:businessinsider
