WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - Costco is recalling 8,600 portable generators sold at its stores after reports they were leaking fuel and starting fires.
The generators made by Champion Power Equipment, of Santa Fe Spring, California, were sold at Costco stores nationwide from Dec. 2011 through Jan. 2012.
Costco issued the recall after eleven reports of fuel leaks from the generators, and eight reports of the generators catching fire, leading to property damage in two instances.
Consumers should stop using the recalled generators immediately and contact Champion Power Equipment for a free repair kit, which can be installed by an authorized dealer. The defective generators can also be returned to Costco for a full refund.
